In honor of the great musician, one of the most beautiful hiking routes from Wengen to the Wengernalp was christened the Mendelssohn Trail in 2006.
This half-day hike leads through a magnificent unspoiled landscape and can be highly recommended to all hiking enthusiasts. The route starts at Wengen railroad station and leads via Schiltwald, Staubbachbänkli, Staldenfluh and Mettlenalp to Wengernalp. The route is signposted "Mendelssohnweg".
Hiking time: approx. 3-3½ hours. Good footwear (mountain or hiking boots) is advisable. Further information is available from the Wengen Tourismus office. From August 19, 2024, six information boards along the trail will tell you lots of interesting facts about Felix Mendelssohn and his time in Wengen.
The hiking trail is closed in winter due to the risk of avalanches and falling ice.
