Mendelssohn Gedenkstätte Wengen
  • Mendelssohn Wengen Foto Rolf Wegmueller 2

On Sunday, August 21, 1842, Felix Mendelssohn visited the hamlet of Wengen on one of his hikes from Interlaken. Above the village, in the so-called Meschti, he drew a sketch of Wengen and the Jungfrau. It is considered to be the oldest historical depiction of the village of Wengen. Today, the memorial stands on the exact spot where Felix Mendelssohn drew his sketch.

The memorial is located 5-10 minutes above the Beausite Park Hotel. Please follow the signs.

The path to the memorial is closed in winter due to the risk of avalanches.
