Welcome to the 20th Mendelssohn Music Week in Wengen. Under the motto "Musical Inspirations", we have once again put together an attractive program for you this year.
Felix Mendelssohn visited Wengen in August 1842. To commemorate this visit, a memorial to the gifted artist was created on the "Meschti" in 2004. The concert organized for the inauguration celebrations was very well received. This encouraged the initiative committee, under the dedicated chairmanship of Walter Gross and the musical direction of Martin Maurer, to organize the first Mendelssohn Music Week the following year. This laid the foundation for a successful development.
For many years now, our festival has held a firm place in the cultural calendar of the Bernese Oberland and is one of the most important cultural events of the summer season in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. For the organizing committee, it is both a source of satisfaction and an incentive that the Mendelssohn Music Week is enjoying increasing popularity.
The Mendelssohn Music Week always takes place in the week in which August 21 occurs. There are 6 top-class concerts by international classical artists to enjoy.
